Tweeting for @Ireland

Since Monday, I’ve been curating, i.e. tweeting from, the @Ireland Twitter account. Maintained by WorldIrish, the project started five weeks ago and has different people curating it each week.

In WorldIrish’s own words:

Inspired by the @Sweden project, @Ireland is based around the idea that a single voice cannot represent a country. By sharing peoples’ experiences and lives with the world, project curators WorldIrish believe @Ireland can help to further connect Ireland to the world and the world to Ireland.

On a personal note, I’m enjoying my time “tweeting for Ireland”, as naturally it increases the audience that I suddenly have, although that does also add some pressure as people have chosen to follow my personal @iandevlin Twitter account to listen to me, but not so with the @Ireland account!

I am trying to keep things interesting, although the whole point of the exercise is to be yourself and to tweet about things that interest you and that you think would interest others. That said I’m not boring people with web development and HTML5 stuff unless they ask!

It’s also important to be interactive and to reply to people when you can, as again this is one of the aims of the project – for others to connect and chat to people who are representing Ireland.

Anyway, I have four more days left, and I’m looking forward to them. I hope that so far I’ve kept people interested and engaged enough to continue following the account, as there’s plenty more to come from other curators in the future!
